You can’t go to the US without visiting Las Vegas.

Vegas is like a crazy world of its own.  I have visited once and found it to be really fun.  While there are lots of Casinos, the people who live there are really genuine.  So I am definitely looking forward to going back.

We are staying at TI (Treasure Island) which we won through bidding on Priceline.  TI is most famous for the Sirens of Tresure Island show.

We have also purchased some tickets to via Groupon to Eli Roth’s Goretorium, which is a year round haunted house.  I have to admit – it looks pretty scary and I don’t scare easy!  I also like that they do weddings. It would certainly be an interesting way to tie the knot.

We have also decided to break the drive in Virginia City which is a fantastic historic mining town.  We may even be lucky enough to stay in a haunted hotel.

Preview – Arizona

We are spending quite a bit of time in Arizona.

We are staying for several days in Winslow.  (As in the Eagles were “Standing on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona”).  Winslow was part of the original route 66 and has some great attractions like the Old Trails Museum.

We are also staying in the amazing La Posada Hotel, which is a an historical masterpiece.

Chris has set his first novel, Arizona Afterwards, in Winslow Arizona.  He is looking forward to seeing the places he has written about.

We are also staying for several days at the Grand Canyon, one of America’s great national parks.  We will make the Grand Hotel our base to explore this amazing landscape.

Preview – California

I have been to California several times and really love it.

In particular I love Disneyland Resort.  We are staying at Anaheim Camelot In & Suites which is very close to the park.  I think you need to be pretty close by so you can pop back to your room if it gets too hot or too busy.  I am really excited to see the new area, Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park.  I have always liked California Adventure, it has a good vibe and some great rides, like Soarin’ Over California.

The Creation Museumis a vast, high-production museum with a rather bizarre scientific principle.  It is a state-of-the-art 70,000 square foot museum which brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals in dynamic form and placing them in familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s Rivers. The serpent coils cunningly in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Majestic murals, great masterpieces brimming with pulsating colors and details, provide a backdrop for many of the settings.
Chris is going to see if he can get a discount with his science museum ID card …

The Big Easy – lots of atmosphere and lots of cool stuff.  I have been here once, but certainly looking forward to seeing it again.

The National WW2 museum is very high on my list of things to do.  The  museum provides great insight into the war and provides an opportunity to learn more in a very personal way – with a range of individual stories portrayed.  There is also a very moving 4D theatre which is fantastic.

Also hoping to ride an air boat around the bayous – haven’t decided on which one yet!

Preview of Hawaii

Hawaii is our first destination and has a great mix of natural and historic attractions and we have some big adventures planned.

We will be staying at the Ohana East, which we got at a good price bidding at Priceline.com. Obviously when bidding at Priceline you never know which hotel you are going to get, you can request an area and star level, but this one looks great.

We are also taking two tours in Hawaii, both from Discover Hawaii Tours.

The first one is the One Day Hawaii Eco Tour. The tour looks at a range of natural attractions in Hawaii including Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Hopefully we can see actual lava!

The one day Pearl Harbour tour tours a range of historic sites, war memorials, monuments and museums in the Pearl Harbour area, which I am sure will be very emotional.

Certainly looking forward to starting our holiday in such a fascinating place.
