North Carolina – Smoky Mountains

I think would come back to North Carolina to enjoy to the natural attractions. The rivers, forests and trails. Lovely driving around this state and good genuine people.

I probably wouldn’t come back for the tourist attractions. north carolina river

Come here and be prepared to walk!

I would rate 7.2 out of 10.

Land of the squirrel

The mountains of North Carolina are beautiful. Some of the activities seem a bit touristy, but lovely state to spend time out of doors.

My total score for North Carolina out of 50 is 27.

Day 26 – onwards and upwards

Travelled through North Carolina today to the Great Smokey mountains and Cherokee.

The drive was lovely with a splattering of wildflowers and purple coloured trees. The drive took us upward into the mountains on a fairly steady gradient.

Once we arrived in Cherokee, which is located on a Cherokee reservation, we visited the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. The museum contains a number of artefacts relating to a wide period of Cherokee history, from paleo to current. The museum also includes clever audio visual effects. The museum does not contain a huge amount of detailed information, but does provide a good overview of the history of the Cherokee people, particularly the eastern band.

Next to the the museum is an arts and crafts collective which contains a wide range of Cherokee arts and crafts.

We are staying in the Rivers Edge hotel which is located right of the edge of the OCONALUFTEE river.
