Arkansas – Kinda Hot

I am not really sure that Arkansas has that much to do, but it does have one really awesome thing to do. You can dig for diamonds in the world’s only public diamond mine. That is awesome – good for you Arkansas!

I remember it being really hot and dirty and I didn’t find any diamonds, but there was something really unique and oddly American about the whole thing. What is more American than people coming to try their luck on a one in a million shot.

There is also a really good café in the town and had a great cheese sandwich!

I would recommend a visit for anyone who is fit enough to sit in a hot field for a while!

I would rate 8.7.Arkansas field

Arkansas is a series of very small towns and pretty much what you would expect.

Value Financial value – bang for your buck, so to speak. Score of 7. Definitely can complain about costs – $7 for diamonds!

Day 43 – free diamonds

Okay, so there is a $7 entry fee and I disney personally find any diamonds, however the Crater of Diamonds State Park is still pretty cool. It is the only diamond-producing site in the world open to the public and is located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas . The park is owned by the state and is open as a tourist attraction for the state, which is pretty cool. You can also camp, go to a water park or go to the information centre.

Essentially, you pay your entry fee and then watch a short video about how to find diamonds. You can rent equipment to Mae the job easier, or just walk around and look on the ground. The diamond finds are likely to be small, if you find any. However, you can find a range of other minerals, or just cool rocks.

I didn’t find anything valuable, but I did find lots of rocks that will make cool jewellery when I get home.

The Crater of Diamonds State Park is the only diamond-producing site in the world open to the public and is located in Murfreesboro.  The policy here is “finder-keepers” so you can actually keep any diamonds you find.  Certainly looking forward to getting covered in dirt and hopefully bringing home something awesome!
