Vacationland

Maine is known as Vacationland. I suspect that the other parts of the state may be lovely, however I found Portland to be a bit unexciting. Therefore, My rating out of 50 is 21. I think the northern parts of the states may be a little better, however the parts I saw were quite suburban.

Categories out of 10

Home comforts Quality of food, accommodation, etc. Score of 5. Accommodation was nice and the hotel provided a free upgrade, however nothing thrilling. The food was pretty average (although I did not get a chance to try the famous Maine lobster).

Attractions The quality of the attractions and generally how fun and interesting they were. Score of 2. Not a lot of big name attractions that you could lose yourself in. A few smaller attractions, but nothing thrilling.

Natural Beauty The aesthetic vistas of the state which make the drive easier. Score of 5. Nice rural areas, however the cities lacked some depth.

Culture Historical and cultural sites and interactions with the locals. Score of 3. A bit lacking in historical and cultural attractions, a few nice art galleries and so forth, but no deep historical sites to look at.

Value Financial value – bang for your buck, so to speak. Score of 6. Financially affordable but many things are expensive for what they are.
